It is a welcome step in preparation for the long awaited commencement of The Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015 and will enhance peoples understanding of advance care planning. We have supported the concept of advance planning for many years via development and promotion of Think Ahead, and in particular welcome this legislation that will provide a firmer framework to support the use of Advance Healthcare Directives in Ireland.”

Not only will it enable people who use our services and their families to better understand the impact of the legislation on their lives, it will support them to exercise their rights and agency in making important health and legal decisions."

The website will be a key resource to enable people's understanding of the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015 and its critical importance in supporting people to exercise their rights and autonomy."

Brothers of Charity

"The Decision Support Service's website is a great resource which will provide useful guides tools and training materials for service providers to further support decision making and capacity building across services. This will be useful when the Capacity Bill is fully enacted in order to best support peoples decision making."

Family Carers Ireland

Family Carers Ireland congratulates the Decision Support Service on the launch of their new website. As well as working to protect and uphold people’s right to make their own decisions, an important function of the DSS is to promote awareness and provide information about the Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015. The newly launched website will play an integral role in providing practical information, guidance and support to people who need assistance with decision-making and to their family and friends who are the most likely person to bring the legislation to life by assuming the role of a decision supporter. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the DSS to ensure the provisions of the Capacity Act are commenced and reflect the realities of both the people who need decision-making support and those willing to provide it.

Inclusion Ireland

"The website provides information on the new Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act, support services available & the different ways you can get decision-making support."

Neurological Alliance of Ireland

"This website is a fantastic guide in relation to all aspects of supported decision making, extremely clear, concise and easy to find the information required".
